Why Does True Voice Offer Student Coaching?

When I decided to start True Voice Communications, I was particularly excited about the idea of working with students. I’ve always had a secret desire to be a teacher but my career path went in a different direction. True Voice gave me a chance to use the skills I’ve developed to help students who want to learn how to improve their interviewing skills for college, graduate school, internships or other opportunities.

I got the idea for the student coaching from my own experience serving as an alumni interviewer for my alma mater, Princeton University.  Every year I conduct a handful of interviews of high school seniors. I love these meetings. I learn a lot. I’m inspired by these students who are ready to go out into the world and make a difference.  I have also seen a wide range of interview skills. Some students are highly engaging and able to talk about themselves confidently. Others are less comfortable and require some work to get to the core of what makes them unique.

The goal of the student coaching is NOT to help a student get into a prestige college or institution.  Rather, it’s about helping students present themselves authentically so schools can make a more informed decision about admission. I also view admissions as a two-way street. I encourage students to ask good questions so they can make well-informed decisions about their own futures. Hopefully this will result in better matches and a more fulfilling experience.

I believe every student has a good story to tell.  I want to help them tell it.
